Beyond The Classroom

At The Lexington Academy we are proud to provide our students with a range of enriching activities which stretch beyond the classroom.  The activities offered include a variety of programs which extend students thinking beyond the classroom, and provide additional opportunities for learning and building skills.  Our partners and sponsors, as well as many of our own classroom teachers, work together to make these opportunities available to our students.

Included in these activities are:

Swimming - Through a partnership with Asphalt Green, our third grade students are given free swimming lessons once a week.

Swimming - Through a partnership with Swim for Life, many 2nd grade students are given free swimming lessons once per week.

Tennis - Through a partnership with Sports Time Tennis on Randall’s Island, our 5th grade and 2nd grade students are given free tennis lessons once a week.

Soccer - Through a partnership with CitySoccer, many Kindergarten through 4th grade students are given free soccer lessons during the school day once per week.

Track and Field - Through our partnership with Randall’s Island and the Jesse Owen organization our 3-5th graders receive track and field lessons at Randall’s Island after-school during the 1st semester of school.

Track and Field - Our students receive track and field training after-school led by teachers in the school. The children participate in competitions and build skills such as team building, trust, healthy living, and the power of exercise.

Art Club - Our upper grade students receive track and field training after-school led by teachers in the school. The children participate in competitions and build skills such as team building, trust, healthy living, and the power of exercise.

Mighty Milers - Each year, two grades are selected to participate in Mighty Milers, where students are given the opportunity to run and/or walk laps. They earn incentives throughout the year based upon the number of laps they run and/or walk.

Move- to- Improve - All of our students participate in Move-to-Improve. Students engage in physical activity during transition periods, giving them time to release their energy and prepare for the next activity.
